One among the 99 chowks, Sundari Chowk lies on the north of Taleju premises. There used to be a Shivalinga in the middle of this chowk. On its east was Laxmibilash Chowk and on the west was Basantapur Palace. The chowk was the most beautiful in appearance of all the 99 chowks and so, the name goes ‘Sundari’, literally meaning a beautiful woman. At present, the area where this chowk used to locate is occupied by government offices of Court, and other organization.
भक्तपुर तलेजु भित्रको ९९ चोकहरु मध्ये सुन्दरी चोक पनि हो । यो चोक तलेजु परिसरको उत्तरतर्फ रहेको छ । चोकको पूर्वमा लक्ष्मीविलास चोक र पश्चिममा प्रसिद्ध बसन्तपुर दरबार रहेको माझमा शिवलिङ्ग रहेको थियो । ९९ चोकमा अति सुन्दर रहेको कारण नाम नै सुन्दरी चोक भनिएको थियो । एक समयमा लुहिटी चोक, लक्ष्मीविलास चोक, दुमाजु चोक बसन्तपुर दरबारबाट यो चोक पुग्ने ढोका समेत रहेकोबाट यो चोक अति सुन्दर रहेको ज्ञात हुन्छ । हाल यो चोकमा अदालतदेखि विभिन्न सघंसंस्थाका कार्यलयका भवनहरु ठडिएको छन् ।
