After the untimely death of Kirti Malla, the younger son of King Jargajyoti Malla in NS 755, got this chowk made in the memory of the deceased son. He also got a Shivaling fixed in the chowk. He organized a Guthi to offer five clay Shivalingas daily. This Chowk used to possess the images of Kumari, and Baishnavi. But in the later phase, it turned into debris. The artistic Barahi idol was set up in Bhairav Chowk and the sector where there used to be Mahadev temple was later turned into Malati Chowk.
ऐतिहासिकताः भक्तपुर तलेजु भित्रका कयौं चोकमध्ये हाल अस्तित्वमा नभएको चोक्मध्ये महादेव चोक पनि हो । राजा जर्गज्योति मल्लका दुई सन्तान मध्ये कान्छा किर्ती मल्लको ने.सं. ७५५ मा असमायिक मृत्यु भएपछि उनको सम्झनामा शिवलिङ्ग स्थापना गरि चोकको निर्माण गरी त्यहाँ दैनिक पाँचवटा माटाका शिवलिङ्ग चढाउने गुठीको व्यवस्था गरेको थियो । यहाँ महादेवको मन्दिरको साथमा कुमारी, बाराही, बैष्णवीका अत्यन्त राम्रा मूर्तिहरु समेतले सिंगारिएकोमा पछि चोक भग्नावशेषमा परिणत भएको थियो । यहाँको अति कलात्मक बाराहीको मुर्ति समेत भैरव चोकमा स्थापना भयो । महादेव मन्दिरको आधा भागमा मालती चोक बनेको छ ।
