Located at Mulala, the northeast part of Bhaktapur, Gwanga Pukhu was constructed by then Malla Minister Chunee (Chukuti) Gwanga. So it is known as Gwanga Pukhu following the founders' surname. It is rectangular is shape extended from the east to the west. Soil excavated from this pond was used for the construction of the world renowned Five Storeyed Temple (Nyatapola). There were rest houses (falcha) on both left and right side of the entrance to the pond that we won't find nowdays. But stone sprout could be seen till date.
भक्तपुर नगरको उत्तरमा अवस्थित मूलालामा पर्ने ग्वङ्ग पुखुको निर्माण तत्कालीन अपुर दरबारका भारदार चुनी (चुकुटी) ग्वङ्गले गरेको बताइन्छ । ग्वङ्ग थरी भारदारले बनाएको हुनाले यसको नाम नै ग्वङ्ग पुखु राखिएको इतिहास छ । पूर्व पश्चिम लाम्चो आकारको यो पोखरी विश्वप्रसिद्ध ङातापोल मन्दिर बनाउन आवश्यक माटो निकाल्ने क्रममा बनाइएको पनि बताइन्छ । पोखरी जाने बाटोको दायाँ बायाँ पाटी, ढुङ्गेधारा रहेकोमा हाल ढुङ्गेधारा मात्र अस्तित्वमा छ ।
