Once a clan deity of the family of Tabathuchhe, this three storied pagoda style temple lies in Taumadhi Square. Jeev Raj Bhari coming from Tabaduchhen initially built the temple with only on story in NS 667. King Bishwo Malla set up Bhairav Nath at this place for observing Bisket festival. For Bhairavnath to reside, King Bhupatendra Malla got the temple reconstructed turning it to be a temple with five storeys. Rather than Bhairavnath, the temple is significant for more traditional monuments, Scriptures of Umamaheshwor (NS 88), Nirbhayashwor (NS 125) and those at Buddhist Chaityas and Yakshya Malla’s Scripture of NS 561 along with the scripture of Sundhara all highlight the historical significance of Bhairavnath.
भक्तपुर तौमढीको प्राणमा स्थापित तीनतल्ले भट्टा छाना शैलीको भैरवनाथ मन्दिर कुनैबेला तवदुछेंहरुको इटदेवता थियो । तवदुछेका जीवराज भारोले आफ्नो इष्टदेवताको लागि ने.सं. ६६७ मा एकतल्ले मन्दिर बनाएकोमा राजा विश्व मल्लको पालमा बिस्केट जात्रामा जात्रा गरिने भैरवनाथ यहां स्थापना गरेपछि राजा भूपतिन्द्र मल्लले मन्दिरलाई तीन तल्लामा निर्माण गरेको हो । त्यसो त यो ठाउंमा भैरवनाथ मन्दिर भन्दा पनि धेरै पुराना पुराना सम्पदाहरुको कारण यसको ऐतिहासिक महत्व प्रशस्त छ । सम्वत ८८ को उमामहेश्वरको अभिलेख, ने.सं. १२५ को निभर्य देवको अभिलेख तथा लिच्छवीकालिन बौद्ध चैत्य र यक्ष मल्लको ने.सं. ५६१ को अभिलेख तथा सुन्धारा आदिले भैरवनाथ मन्दिरको ऐतिहासिकतामा थप बल प्रदान गर्छ ।
