Maghe sankranti

This December festival marks the beginning of warmer and longer days or the winter solstice. It is end of winter and beginning of spring and harvest season. It is the festival of Sun God, the symbol of power, divinity and wisdom. Newars partake of a feast that includes butter (ghyu), molasses (chaku) and yam.
